So I'm sure a lot of you, like me, absolutely love movies! To be honest, before Covid was a thing, going to the movie theatres a few times a month were some of my absolute favourite things to do. I loved seeing a story being translated onto the big screen, and the feelings of joy and excitement that I got whenever we went to the theatre is something that I will cherish forever. Without further rambling, let's get into some movies that I think you should give a chance!
Judy - Musical/Drama
Mannnnnnn, this movie is phenomenal you guys!! I watched it for the first time last year, and let me tell you, it is a story that I will never forget!
It is the life story of Judy Garland, who of course played the infamous Dorothy Gale in The Wizard of Oz. It chronicles the high points, the low points, the addictions, and the struggles that comes with teenage stardom in a toxic Hollywood business. Especially for young women, and how that will transcend throughout your life. This movie was magical, phenomenal, emotional, and most importantly, gives us an insight into humans, how we must treat everyone with dignity and respect, and how at the end of the day, we should all be working to better ourselves, not to tear each other apart.
Jojo Rabbit - Comedy/Drama
Please, please, please, please, please, if you just take one recommendation from this entire list, I beg of you to watch this movie. I promise you, it will not disappoint!
This movie follows ten year old Nazi youth, Jojo Betzler, in the midst of Nazi Germany. He's an avid Hitler supporter, believing in all the propaganda that is targeted for children his age, until one day he discovers a secret. He finds out that his mother has been secretly hiding a Jewish girl in their attic, and his whole life changes. This is a beautiful and touching story about love, life, duty, family, and what it means to do the right thing. It is both humorous, emotional, and devastating at the same time, and is sure to make you feel all the feels. With darker undertones to a somewhat lighthearted and silly movie, Jojo Rabbit will stay in your head and especially your hearts for a long time after you watch it. If there is only one movie I can convince you to watch, this one is it!
Stranger than Fiction - Romance/Fantasy/Comedy
This movie is freaking genius!!!!! I can't express myself enough. It is original in it's own way, beautiful, funny, and heartwarming all at the same time!!
In this movie, we follow our main character Harold Crick who lives life by the rule book, and never dares to break out of his everyday routine. However, Harold's life is turned upside down by a narration only he can hear. When the voice declares that Harold is facing death, he realizes he must find out who it is and persuade it to change his fate. This is a beautiful, funny, and slightly sarcastic story about life and love. It reminds us that life is unpredictable and messy. But that is OK. That's what makes it beautiful and worth living. I absolutely love this movie. It's one of my favourite's of all time. It isn't super flashy, overly dramatic, or very revolutionary, but it does have incredible heart and soul that will suck you in and keep you invested the whole way through.
Here you go! These are just some of my personal favourite movies, and I hope that you'll try them out if you haven't already! Movies are a fantastic way to escape and become completely immersed in an entirely different world. In the comments below tell me some of your favourite movies and which one of these three you're most excited to watch!
